Creating Change, One Swap at a Time

Alexandra Caimi’s Space Swap Story.

From the moment Alexandra Caimi talks about Space Swap, you can feel the joy behind it. That’s not an accident. In the early days, she made herself one promise: “If it stops being fun, I’m not going to do it anymore.” Four years later, Space Swap is still here, evolving, growing, and continuing to leave its mark on the community.

When she returned home during COVID, she was looking for community, creativity, and connection.

A simple clothing swap, something that felt natural to her, turned out to be something entirely new and exciting here. It was “really well received,” and from there, Space Swap snowballed into something much bigger.

Alexandra’s journey started far from Brevard County. After six years living in California and working in the film industry, she was immersed in a culture where composting, recycling, and sustainability were the norm. “That planted the seed,” she shared.

Groundswell became a turning point. Introduced through a fellow board member, Shey Anderson, Alexandra was quickly pulled into the community. “Everyone brought us under their wing,” she said. From early advisory support to ongoing encouragement, Groundswell provided what every founder needs at the beginning: belief. “You need people that believe in your idea and are excited and are willing to help you and actually give you tools and ideas to help it succeed.”

As Space Swap grew, so did its ambition, from pop-ups to a brick-and-mortar space, from art and music to sustainability education and advocacy. Along the way, tough decisions had to be made, including closing the storefront. Still, Space Swap didn’t disappear. “We didn’t just dissolve and go away,” Alexandra said. Instead, the organization returned to its roots, intentional events, powerful partnerships, and a mission-driven focus.

Today, Space Swap is proof that impact isn’t about permanence; it’s about people. “The amount of people we’ve impacted and the relationships that have lasted for years, that’s success to me.” And like Groundswell itself, Space Swap continues to be a place where ideas are nurtured, community is built, and purpose always comes first.
